This week I've been working on something slightly different - thankfully there's not been too much dust compared to
last week as the builders have moved on from wrecking the joint to putting the new roof on, which was just in time as the heavens opened mid week!
I don't know if I mentioned that I'm part of a local Am Dram group and we're performing Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett at the end of April (25th - 27th inclusive in Lydbrook in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire if anyone's keen to come and see me make a fool out of myself (again!!)) and as such we all play a part (geddit?!) in organising the costumes and props.
I offered to make the 4 badges/shields for one scene which has two unnamed Worthies (So I've chosen their Guilds for them!), The Head of the Guild of Assassins and The Arch Chancellor of the Unseen University... so based on pictures that I found online these are the Shields that I've made:
|
The Guild of Assassins |
|
The Guild of Embalmers |
|
The Fools Guild |
|
The Unseen University Shield |
The shields are to be worn on heavy very pompous looking breast plates (which is fitting for these 4 who think they are Very Important People!) and later in the week I'll sneak a pic on here so you can see them on the costumes :-)
Here are all 4 together:

All 4 Shields |
And now I'm off to check out what everyone else has been up to in the
Handmade Monday link up.
These are great! They will look brilliant I'm sure, and I love the Guild names x
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie :-) Simmi x
DeleteI think your shield designs are really great. I'm sure they will add to the success of the play. I particularly like the Fool's Guild one.
ReplyDeleteAwww thank you, although I can't take the credit for the designs, I just copied some that I found online, but I do like that one too :-) Simmi x
Deleteoooh these are fab! You must have been a shield maker in another life time! :) x
ReplyDeleteHehe - thanks Natalie, I like that idea! Simmi x
DeleteThey are excellent Simmi. What do all of the embellishments represent on the guild of Assassins? Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jill :-) That's a very good question and I don't know what the crosses represent, but the black cloak would have been their outfit of choice so as not to be seen and the dagger was a common weapon (although they would only use it if paid "a very large amount to do so"!!!) I'll have to ask a friend of mine if she knows what the crosses are all about - she's a much bigger Pratchett fan than I am! Simmi x
DeleteGreat sheilds, felt comes into its own for projects like this. I hope the building work and the play both go well. Break a leg (for the play not the building work :-) ).
ReplyDeleteHehe - thanks Louise, I'll try not to break a leg on the building site - I'd have no-one to blame but myself! Simmi x
DeleteIt's great you get to use your creative talents to help make props for the play. These look fab. I hope it goes well and that you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura :-) Also thank you SO much for speedy postage of the Birthday Card I got from your gorgeous shop - it arrived today and Patrick will love it! Simmi x
DeleteThe shields look amazing. And you've revealed another talent. I wouldn't be brave enough to get up on stage. I hope the performance is really successful.
ReplyDeleteAli x
Awww thanks Ali! Funnily enough, for someone who worries about their weight (who doesn't I suppose!) and can be quite shy at times, I LOVE being on stage! Hope to get some pics of the performance for my Handmade Monday post in a couple of weeks as I probably won't have much time to make anything that week! Simmi x
DeleteThey look great - hope the performances go well(sure they will!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane :-) We've reached that nervous point now, where the fact that we're live this time next week seems horrendously close!! Sure it'll be all right on the night though! Simmi x
DeleteThese look really professional - hope your fees reflect this? ;)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, fees... I wonder if I could get away with that?! ;-) Simmi x
DeleteClever you - Am Dram and shield maker.... xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Gertie :-) Simmi x
DeleteI love the shields, they're brilliant. Hope the play goes well, I love TP but not close enough to come along sadly x
ReplyDeleteThanks Bev - sorry to hear that, but I'll "treat" you to some pics and the highlights in a couple of weeks :-) Simmi x
DeleteAmazing work, Simmi! Good luck with the play! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks - am feeling a little nervous, but mostly about getting all my costume changes done in time!! Simmi x
DeleteThis sounds like so much fun. I love the designs and such fine workmanship. Very nice!
