I'm feeling a bit guilty this week as not only have I not done much crafting, due to half term, but I've also not posted since last week's Handmade Monday post.
I am going to try and blog more frequently, but in turn it involves remembering to take some pictures as I'm pretty sure the blog posts are more interesting if there's something to look at!
One day I'll get more organised :-)
In the mean time, this week's post, which is for the Handmade Monday link up over at Wendy's wonderful Handmade Harbour blog is about the 6 Nations Rugby.... I promise there is something crafty in there too though!
We are quite a big rugby supporting household - my husband is Irish, the kids were born in Wales and I support England, so there's always chaos, shouting and arguing here! This year my Dad and my Hubby were lucky enough to score tickets to see England v Ireland in Dublin (last weekend) so the kids and I stayed at home and watched the match on telly trying to catch a glimpse of Daddy and Grandad.
As the kids' England tops were too small to wear, I decided to kit them out in white tops and make them both an English Rose badge/brooch to wear.
Here's me in my England top:
Here's the work in progress shot whilst watching the rugby (trying very hard not to stab myself!):
Seren wearing her badge with pride:
Patrick refused to be photographed wearing his, so here's a pic of the finished item:
These are now available in my Etsy Shop and by midweek I'm hoping to have a daffodil added to the shop too as a couple of Welsh friends have pointed out that it's St David's Day in a couple of weeks and they'd like something patriotic to wear!
Have a great week - I'm heading over to Handmade Monday now to catch up on all my crafty friends' adventures. Simmi xx

I bet it fun in your house when the rugby's on. The rose broochs are lovely. Am I right in thinking that Patrick isn't an England supporter :)
ReplyDeleteI've been nominated for the super sweet blogging award and would like to pass it on to you. Hopefully I will post about this on Monday but like you I sometimes just don't find the time to post. Oh and Seren does look very proud. Thanks for sharing.
Ali x
Hey Ali, it sure is! Even better when we have friends/family staying who like to argue with Brian and gee the kids up to support any team but Ireland! Patrick wasn't sure who he was supporting and kept shouting "Come on you silly boys!" Awww thank you so much - that's really lovely of you, I've not been nominated for a blog award before! Simmi xx
DeleteYour Roses are wonderful.I really like the 3d effect. This is a great way to create an English top without spending loads - and when they out grow them you can simply put it on a bigger top. Genius :) I hope that you get a bit more time this week. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how somethings things you do as a quick fix turn out to be a better option - I could have forgone England tops this year and bought them new ones next year, but now they can just transfer the brooch :-) Simmi x
DeleteThe rose brooches are great (and beautifully modelled!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane :-) Seren was very proud to be on the blog again this week!
DeleteWhat lovely brooches, and a lovely idea to do daffs too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy - hoping the daffs work out as well! Simmi x
DeleteBrilliant idea - mine's a daffodil! Or a leek!! In Welsh the words for daffodil and leek are very similar so both are in evidence on patriotic days, when Wales are playing in Cardiff! Oggi, Oggi, Oggi - etc!
ReplyDeleteMy husband suggested a leek, but I thought a daff might look prettier! Simmi x

ReplyDeleteYour roses are lovely - look forward to seeing the daffodil. Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jill - hope the daffs live up to the roses :-) Simmi x
DeleteI love the idea of you sewing while you are watching the rugby. Beautiful brooch.
ReplyDeleteIt stopped me from getting too over excited - which makes the children shout at me and then try and climb on me!! Simmi x
DeleteFantastic brooch! Looking forward to seeing the daffs x
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie :-) Simmi x
DeleteThat's a fab rose brooch- Seren looks so cute wearing hers! Look forward to seeing the daffodils when you get the chance to settle down and make one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny - she really enjoyed being the model - we had quite a few comical poses to try out! Have an idea now for the daffs, just need to get a couple of orders out of the way first! Simmi x
DeleteAww those roses are cute! Lovely to see little Seren wearing hers with pride :)
ReplyDeleteMy OH is a rugby fan... not me though... amazing how sport can divide a household!! x
Cheers Natalie :-) She was beaming at being the model - asked if I was going to put her on a poster! It's true... thankfully my hubby's less interested in football now that we've moved away from his team, so we can be a rugby household!! Simmi x
DeleteIt must of been great to be at the game, I believe the atmosphere at these events is electric (my father in Law used to play the pipes at the beginning of matches at Croke Park)
ReplyDeleteYour brooches are lovely, you could do a whole garden :)
Jan x
Oh wow Jan, I bet that was amazing for him! The atmosphere is fantastic (we used to go to Twickenham quite a bit when we lived in London) and what's really nice is there aren't any "ends" so the supporters are all mixed in together and tend to get on really well. Simmi x
DeleteWhat a great idea, the brooches look great. Will let my welsh friend know about the daffs - she is both patriotic and rugby mad!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bev, I know quite a few Welsh bods that could apply to :-) Simmi x
DeleteLove the brooch, it certainly is a great way of making England shirts for the little ones. I can sympathise with you about not knowing what team to support. My eldest was born in South Africa, my youngest in England, my father's family is Scottish and we support our local team London Irish who are nowhere near Ireland!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kirsty, that sounds very familiar! We used to support London Irish when we lived in Greenwich :-) Simmi x
DeleteI love your roses!! I love that fact that England are doing so well too!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good week!! xx
Thanks Sarah - I know, it's amazing that we're doing so well! And you :-) Simmi x
